I got myself a Traveler’s Company Notebook and I am loving it. I have a weekly calendar and folder, but I also made for myself a Social Media Planner, Projects Planner, Art Tracker, and Craft Pattern Tracker.
OMG. I am tabling at, of all places, Emerald City ComiCon! March 6 to 9, 10am to 7pm (5pm on Sunday). I am tabling with Colleen Frakes who is one of the cartoonists I remember finding at zine fests when I was just starting on my comics path. She is famous enough to have a Wikipedia page. I normally wouldn’t do an event like this but it is actually affordable and I have a free place to stay (my brother-in-law’s couch) and a ride there and back with my niece. So it costs me only meals and the table. I will be doing commissions, so if you want something, hit me up now and I can have it ready when you get there! I am terrified and excited. I’ve never been away from Wally that long and it’s been a long time since I haven’t seen Abe for that long.
I have been enchanted by needle painting lately. It is just so textured. An online class I took was for miniature pet portraits. So I tried Wally! It’s hard. These are just process shots. Finished project coming later. But I love the back in-process shot. For needle painting, you are using a single thread and switching colors a lot. So you keep all the colors attached and just park them off to the side.
I will share more photos of the next two later, but here’s a peek. I discovered punch needle and bought a kit of these cute frog coasters. Punch needle is crazy. It is a bunch of loops held in the cloth by friction. I will take pictures of Abe’s and my coasters, but the other three were gifted away and I forgot to take pictures. The fungus here is based on a pattern by Pretty Creepy Dolls. But the embroidery, teeth, and eye style are my doing. Abe took some great pictures of the fungus and Reginald the froggo but he still needs to process them, so hopefully next email.
Jansen reminder! If you are in Whatcom, sign up now to learn about zines on February 1 at 11 to 3. Kids comics is February 11 to March 4. After that, a variety of curio classes. Join me! Or tell the people you know here (because it seems everyone knows someone in Bellingham).
Oh my. Cozy Grove. (Game, on my Switch.) It’s like Animal Crossing but more sarcastic and nearly anti-capitalism. And the art is beautiful. You play a “spirit scout” (like campfire or girl or boy scout) on a ghost-filled island and you have to help the ghost bears. The stories are sweet and sad and silly. For winter, you can make snowfolk who you can then talk to every day and learn snippets of their lives. Very similar to Her Blood and Bone, actually. There are imps who steal things and cry when they can’t find their love. Anyway, this little game is how I start my days, now.
I hope your day gets better from here!

P.S. Wally would greet you but Abe made him a special dinner (some wet food with his dry food) and now that is the only thing that will ever be on his mind again. Until he is done eating it.
