This Sunday is Ernie Day (our corgi Ernie died on June 22, 2017). I still miss him terribly. So get out there and chase some balls and eat peanut butter as fast as you can. He won a peanut butter eating contest in literally 1 second. The judge said go, and we said he’s done. Like, check his breath for PB to make sure he actually was served some. They gave someone else first prize, too, because it was another 30 seconds at least before another dog finished.

This slugshroom pattern was my project from the Skillshare class “Create a Modern Trailing Floral Pattern in Adobe Illustrator,” by Mel Armstrong. She is an amazing teacher! I actually have to pay attention to her videos. In this class, you use the “ogee” pattern template. I had no idea what “ogee” meant, but according to Wikipedia, “An ogee is an object, element, or curve—often seen in architecture and building trades—that has a serpentine- or extended S-shape.” There’s your fact for the day. Now go have fun.
The original of this is painted using actual watercolor paper. So fancy. It’s been a while, but I have been taking a watercolor class and we’ve been using that wonderful Arches cold-press. I also looked up what banana slugs like to eat so I could put something realistic in there, but that wasn’t a big help because they will eat almost anything. Which meant I just used my default, mushrooms, and in a nicely contrasting color.
I will be at the Jansen later this summer:
July 9: embroidered watercolor poppies and Abe’s still photography
(Can you tell we are commuting together?)July 23: pieced block stamps (like my bloberry totes) and Abe’s photography of moving subjects
August 6, inking with a nib and Abe’s how to take pictures of people (he’s really excellent at this.
August 20, embroidered photos and Abe’s macro photography.
I do a perusal of the “puzzle” games on the Switch store every once in a while (weekly or monthly), and this time I stumbled upon Hidden Cat Outlaws. What a ridiculous game. Wild West-themed, there are three additional items to find on each of the fifteen maps (about three times the number of maps in most hidden-cat games). And you “fight” a boss cat (the outlaw), who then gives you a treasure map. And the sound effects crack me up. Most of them are one of the three creators using just his voice: meows, “doodoodoooo”s, stuff like that. You can hear some of the sounds in this video.
I hope your day gets better from here!

P.S. We finally mowed the dog run because it was overrun with buttercups. Wally kept getting seeds in his eyes, and both dogs were getting petals stuck to their tongues. It was so overrun it was hard to get a good photo, but here’s a before and after.
