Books and book stuff at Open Book
I am not kidding. It is mushroom explosion here. Everywhere you look, there are more mushrooms. I was cutting down blackberries when I found these on a very dead cane.
It’s that time! Open Book is coming this Sunday in Ferndale, WA, 12 to 5. I will also be giving an “Author Lightning Talk” at some point, though I am not sure when. I have a ton of new merch ready, like book earrings, journal necklaces, book tracking earrings and leaf coasters. Inktober is over and I almost made it. I didn’t ink day 30 and didn’t even pencil or research day 31. But I plan to have the entire book complete, scanned and ready to go by the end of November. But best laid plans…
The orca’s expression was certainly inspired by what is going on with orcas in the Puget Sound, knocking over boats and generally fighting back.
More specifically, that is a burrowing owl because my owlkin character was based on burrowing owls.
Funny enough, Day 23 is the first uncolored page and is also where I messed up my chart of prompts. It all works out.
This is a good example of my bad handwriting. I had written mouse and read moose! And from here on, I haven’t even had time to erase my pencil lines.
I was too tired when I inked this and might have to at the very least paste a new face over this one. Supposed to be a lemur. Not sure what I ended up with.
I just learned a ton about puffins at Wild Wonder this year, like those fancy beaks? They are plates that come off outside of mating season, so when they are all out at sea relaxing, their beaks are like 20% smaller.
And that’s it. That’s as far as I made. it. I should have the rest of the images done by next Friday, though, so I will show you then.
I played Pan-Pan on the switch and loved it. Usually I don’t particularly care for isometric visuals but they took it and ran with it. I love how this looks. And the puzzles are fun. My only complaint is I wish it were a little longer. Or had a sequel. Where does she go after repairing her ship?!

P.S. Wally was dressed as a bat for Halloween (same as last year) but I didn’t take any pictures. But here he is doing what he did every summer day during lunch.
