(tiny note: read to the end starting with this newsletter to see a cute little picture of my doggo, Wally.)
One of the main things I said while getting my MFA is that I did NOT want to teach. But guess what. I have two classes at Jansen Art Center this fall! “Let’s Make Comics” is for kids 8-12, starting Saturday, 9/14, for 4 sessions at 10:30 am. We’ll make a comic strip, comic page, mini comic, and anthology! And “Experimenting with Drawing Tools” is for ages 13+, starting Friday, 9/20 at 2:30 pm. We will try out graphite, ink, scratchboard, watercolor, and colored pencils. If you are in Whatcom County, I hope you will consider joining us.
I have been trying to wrap up projects. I have a terrible habit of starting them and then not finishing them because I get annoyed or mad or confused. So I have some really good stuff coming up.
Ironically, though, I both started and finished this as a housewarming present for someone moving rooms in assisted living. Took an evening. And it was so much fun!! Keep an eye out for more. I will probably make patterns from some because making one takes a minimum of 3 hours so one would cost about $150-$200. I made this because I accidentally sign up for Domestika Plus so now I am using it as much as I can until February. This is from the class “Embroidery Techniques of Floral Patterns for Felt.”
I also made this little mushroom man. I like it but I need to do something else. The curve was very hard to sew, so I did it by hand. Another Domestika course, this was for “Soft Toy Creation for Beginners.” I will definitely make another, better one. And I might make it a pattern.
I finished Night Eaters, vol. 2, recently (graphic novel written by Marjorie Liu and drawn by Sana Takeda). I liked it even better than vol. 1! Who knows why. The art is of course stunning. I love the doll character design so much. Wonderfully cute and creepy. But the story got me more this time. Vol 1 I took a while to get hooked on. To be convinced. But vol. 2 got me right away. And I think it was more than just that I had seen the characters before. More that we jumped right into action. Vol. 1 was a lot of setup for the series because it is kind of complex (and interesting). I don’t know how long they are planning for the series to be. But I’m looking forward to reading the next volume.
Sorry for wasting your time. I hope your day gets better!

P.S. Wally is currently sleeping next to me and wagging his tail. What a sweetie-pie.
