What a summer. A couple days ago we had two days that felt like late fall—stormy, windy, pouring rain—and today was almost 90. Not a fan, here. I love fall and I don’t like summer to taunt me with it. :)
I made a zine for that show with Allison Preisinger where I taught…making zines. And now you can read it, too! It is free to read on my site or you can buy the PDF to print for yourself, from Gumroad. I was feeling silly so it is written and designed in a Dr. Seuss style. I had a wonderful time with it.
Don’t worry, I still have so much Boynton to share. I did 10 this year instead of the usual 5. This might have been one of the funniest I did. The poem is about the aftermath of a Taylor Swift concert. You want to know what I know about the ol’ T. Swift? My coworkers at the library loved her. I am sure I must have heard her music but I couldn’t point it out. So I had to do some research. I could go based on her albums which use muted colors; or I could go based on the concerts that are glitz and glitter. I had to do the concert of course since that is what the poem was about. And it was really fun to make this rainbow.
Another illustration with the looser, scribbly ink style. It is a hard one to do well but when it works, it works.
Its been a while but I have all these events coming up! It is very strange.
Senior day at Hovander Park
Ferndale, WA, August 7, Tuesday, 10am to 2pm
I’ll be there representing the anthology Elder Voices. If you are in the area, come by because will have a big raffle, an instant-win raffle wheel, a comic jam, impromptu poetry shops, and more.
Illustrated Poetry at Lynden Senior/Community Center
Lynden, WA, August 15, 1:30pm to 3:30pm
This event will be a real treat. I will share what I have learned over the years about illustrating poetry. This is also part of the Elder Voices anthology. And since most of you cannot attend (though it is free), I will make it into an online class as quickly as possible. I actually go into the design of the “A Blur of Love” broadside illustration above a lot more in the workshop.
Interview, coming soon
To spread the news of Universal Laws of Robotics, I am doing an interview on the podcast Words, Images, and Worlds. I will let you know as soon as I know when that will be going up.
Want to know what I am watching right now? Literally as I am typing this. Rosemary and Thyme (on BritBox). For the third time at least. Gardeners solving murders. Perfect. I wish this show had gone on for a dozen years more. These are some deadly gardeners! Very on theme for my current hobby digging up blackberries. I am currently covered in dirt from digging up the darn little sprouts where we have already worked. I assume I will have to do that for a couple years before they really go away.
Sorry for wasting your time. I hope your day gets better!
