It’s summertime and the bugs are a flying. And I am currently copyediting a book about agroforesty, which is including trees on your farm, like instead of 100 acres of just corn. Or sunflowers. It is a good read, actually. I am especially excited because it talks about how to pick trees that are “multi-purpose” and we have been planting trees around here willy-nilly. We need some plants to help with flooding in a few areas so soon I will have a better idea what to do about that.
August 7: Hovander Park in Ferndale, WA, Senior Day—I will be at the Elder Voices booth taking submissions, holding a raffle, drawing comics with people, and more. It actually sounds really fun and very . . . immersive. At least for our booth.
August 15: Lynden Senior/Community Center (still WA)—I will be teaching this time! Illustrated Poetry. I have a whole presentation that goes into how I go about illustrating poems. And since it is just a little thing, I am probably going to turn it into a little video class, too. I have to figure out how to host it, etc. But I would also like to offer “homework critiques,” where you do the lesson, do the homework assignment at the end, pay a fee, and send me the homework to get a critique! So keep an eye out. It’s coming.
I mean, Abe made the photo, but I made the little robot in the photo. Isn’t he a cutie patootie?! He’s a slightly worn but resilient little robot who would pick flowers all day, given the chance.
This little robot is so excited to have found the perfect orange flowers. We have similar orange flowers (but even more vibrant if I say so myself) at the side of our driveway. We planted “PNW Wildflower Mix” seeds last year and not this one because we wanted to see what would come up again. Not as many as we had hoped but more than expected. And some are in the middle or other side of the driveway.
What? Did you think a robot couldn’t be made out of granite. Not only is it made of granite but it is covered in moss. If you like a brisk walk, this is not the guy to go with.
Abe and I had a lot of fun taking these pictures in our driveway. I was scared a couple times that we were making the bees angry. One waggled her butt at me, but I froze and she stopped by a couple more flowers and went on her way. I have a bunch more to show but later. There’s really a lot. All of these little guys are up for grabs through August 13 at the Universal Flaws of Robotics Kickstarter! They are an add-on, so pick a book tier and the next screen will let you add stickers and a commission from me.
Currently, I am watching My Life Is Murder on Acorn TV with Lucy Lawless who used to play Xena, warrior princess. It is a good one. And she looks like she is having such a good time!
That’s all I have right now. Been copyediting mostly. And coding in Python (more about that soon).
Stay curious,
Angela
